How to Shop for Healthy Foods : Healthy Drinking & Digestion
The video above presents a very simple tip that can be a big help for those who have problems with digestion. While it is important to drink adequate water to maintain hydration, you don have to drink a lot of water or other liquids at the same time you eat your meals.
People who have problems with digestion need to keep the concentration of stomach acid and enzyme high to get maximum digestion of their food.
Excess consumption of liquids during or before meals can drastically dilute the digestive action and result in gas, indigestion, heartburn, and can even result in food allergies because the body may produce an immune reaction to poorly digested food in the GI tract. So, keep your fluid consumption low during and right before meals and consume more of your water between meals.

Wow, this makes a lot of sense. I try to eat and drink separately to improve my absorption of nutrients. I am thinking about going on some kind of juice fasting or some kind of supplement to make sure I have optimal nutrition. Any suggestions?

Steve,
Juice fasting is primarily for detoxification rather than for getting optimal nutrition, so those are separate issues. Some people find an occasional juice fast to be very energizing.
Optimal nutrition is a function of diet and supplementation. The better one’s diet is, the less supplementation is needed. Most people are not eating optimal diets though, so as a minimum supplementation suggestion for most people, I recommend a good quality multivitamin and mineral and an omega 3 fatty acid supplement. For the multi, in my office I use NutriWest’s Core Level Health Reserve or NutriSpec’s Oxygenic B. For omega 3, I use NutriWest’s Complete Omega 3 Essentials, but any high quality fish oil or krill oil supplement works well.
